  1. Chapter 4 Sec 1 Vocabulary • Inauguration • A ceremony in which the president takes the oath of office. • Precedent • An example to be followed by others in the future. • Bond • A certificate issued by a government for an amount of money that the government promises to pay back with interest. • Speculator • People who invest in a risky venture in the hope of making a profit. • Unconstitutional • Contrary to what is permitted by the Constitution. • Tariff • A tax on imported goods.

  2. Launching a New Nation • The American Revolution left the country in debt. • People bought war bonds to help support the war. • Speculators will buy products at a low price hoping they will increase in value to make a profit.

  3. Hamilton’s Financial Plan • Established a National Bank • The bank was to provide a safe place to deposit government funds.

  4. The Whiskey Rebellion • 1791 congress imposed a tax on all whiskey made and sold in the United States. • Farmers were upset by the tax. • The farmers rebelled by burning down the house of a tax collector.
