  1. English 10 - 10/15/12 • Write a “claim” for your persona in the debate. Do you agree with it? Why or why not? • Why do fire departments have Dalmations? • Gramatolatry – The worship of words. Goals – Continue research and analysis of articles on both the pro and con side. Make sure that all of your grounds are connected to the sources you found them in. Homework – Print another source article, Pro or Con, for your debate. Don’t forget to study Vocabulary # 8 for quiz Friday.

  2. English 10 - 10/16/12 • Write a “claim” for your opponent’s position in the debate. What do you think are the flaws in the position? • How did the mouse feel after the cat chased it through the screen door? • Epizeuxis – the repetition of a word, for emphasis. Goals – Take the Healthy Youth Survey. Continue to find grounds and annotate them. Homework – Make sure you know everything your opponent is going to use against you.

  3. English 10 - 10/17/12 • What do you know about works cited pages? What do you need to know? • Why do bicycles fall over? • Embolalia – hesitation forms of speech, e.g. ”um,” “you know,” “like,” “okay.” Goals – Create a correct works cited page. Homework – Get at least five sources on your works cited page. Start with just the links.

  4. English 10 - 10/18/12 • What do you think is the best way to win an argument? Is there anything that is unfair when you argue? • What is Irish and sits outside? • Dithyram – a wild, emotional outpouring, in poetry, speech, hymn, song, or writing. Goals – Begin work on team roles and practicing for the timed debate. Discuss warrants and how they fit together with your grounds. Homework – Make reference to your sources on your cards for each of your warrants.

  5. English 10 - 10/19/12 • Five minutes to study for Quiz 8. • What is Mary short for? • Diasyrm – Putting down with faint praise. Goals – Complete quiz 8 and correct it. Early release schedule. Homework – Finalize your analysis of grounds and warrants. Finalize your Works Cited page.
