  3. Why are you talking about Baseball Craig!? • Math is very important in baseball. Here are different equations that are used in Baseball. • H+AB=BA • H+BB+HBP/AB+HBP+SF=OBP • (1B)+(2x2B)+(3x3B)(4xHR)/AB=SLG • AB(H+BB+HBP)+TB(AB+BB+SF+HBP) / AB(AB+BB+SF+HBP)=OPS

  4. Ken Griffey JR. • Ken Griffey Jr. (AKA “The Kid”) was an American professional baseball athelete that played for the Mariners and the Reds from 1989 to 2010 • All Star (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995,1996, 1997, 1998,  1999, 2000, 2004, 2007) • Gold Glove (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999) • Silver Slugger (1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999) • MVP (1997) • Home Run Derby winner (1994, 1998, 1999) • AL Home Run Champion (1994, 1997, 1998, 1999) • AL RBI Champion (1997)

  5. Batting Average • H+AB=BA • H=Hits • AB=At Bats • 185/605=.304 • League Average=.267 • Simple right?

  6. On base percentage • H+BB+HBP/AB+HBP+SF=OBP • H=Hits • BB=Bases on Balls (walks) • AB= At Bats • SF= Sacrifice Flies • HBP= Hit by Pitch • 185+76+8/608+76+8+12=.382 • League Average=.337

  7. Slugging percentage • (1B)+(2x2B)+(3x3B)(4xHR)/AB=SLG • 1B= Single Base Hit • 2B= Double Base Hit • 3B= Triple Base Hit • HR= HOME RUN!!!! • AB= At Bats • (92)+(2x34)+(3x3)+(4x56)/608=.646 • League Average=.419

  8. On Base plus slugging • AB(H+BB+HBP)+TB(AB+BB+SF+HBP) / AB(AB+BB+SF+HBP)=OPS • H=Hits • BB=Bases on Balls (walks) • AB=At Bats • HBP=Hit by Pitch • TB=Total Bases • SF=Sacrifice Flies • 185(185+76+8)+393(608+76+12+8)/608(608+76+12+8)=1.028 • League Average=.756
