Pre-activity: tell which of the sentence follow the rising or falling intonation. • Do some animals eat plants? • What is the largest animal in the sea? • Do fish swim in the sea? • Where do animals get their food? • Which body part of the bird helps in getting food? • Are the teeth of a cat and a dog similar? • What kinds of animals live in the dessert? • Is road runner a bird? • Do birds eat insects and worms? • What are the foods of animals that live in the sea?

  4. Listening activity: miss cruz is a grade five teacher. She checks the pupils knowledge on animals. • Ms. Cruz: What is a road runner? • Pupil 1: Road runner is a bird. • Pupil 2: Road runner is a bird? • Pupil 3: Yes, it is. • Ms. Cruz: What does it eat? • Pupil 1: It eats lizard and snakes. • Pupil 2: It eats lizards and snakes? • Pupil 3: Yes it does.

  5. Comprehension questions: • What is a road runner? • Who knows what a road runner is? • Who does not know what a road runner is? • In which statements do I raise my voice? • In which statements do I lower my voice? • What do we call the intonation in the statements where we raise our voice?

  6. Generalization: • Falling Intonation is used if the sentence is just a plain statement. • Rising Intonation is used if the sentence is answerable by yes/no or if it is asking for a confirmation.

  7. Listening time No.1 Tell what intonation is used in each sentence.

  8. Listening time No.2 Raise your arrow card pointing downward if you hear plain statements and raise your arrow card upward if you hear sentences asking confirmation.

  9. Read the following sentences correctly. Identify the plain statements and the sentences that ask confirmation. Girls will read the sentence.
