  1. Sonata- Multi-movement piece for instrument(s) and keyboard accompaniment. • Concerto- Three movement piece for instrument(s) and keyboard accompaniment. • Toccata- A keyboard piece to display the technical proficiency of the player • Fugue- Uses a series of imitating melody lines

  2. Opera- A staged drama that is completely sung. • Ballet- Staged drama that is danced with background music. • Masque- Stage production similar to a musical.

  3. Cantata- Based on a narrative text. Comes from the madrigal. • Oratorio- Similar to an opera but it is not staged or acted out.
