  2. Why would a person with dreams of running her own business turn to a multinational company for help? Why would a customer pay a fee for the privilege of shopping at a certain store? Why would an organization have no intention of earning a profit at all?

  3. There are sound answers for all of these questions. As you read this, you will discover many kinds of organizations that serve many kinds of interests. You are probably already familiar with a number of them.

  4. Business franchise- a semi-independent business that pays fees to a parent company in return for the exclusive right to sell a certain product or service in a given area. • Parent companies are called franchises.

  5. The franchiser develops the products and business system. • Royalty- Share of earnings given as payment • Just about any type of business can be franchised. In 1988, one California entrepreneur started a mobile autopsy business. His company has been so successful that it now offers business franchises in the United States and abroad.

  6. Advantages of owning a Franchise as opposed to a Sole Proprietorship or Partnership • 1) Management training and support. • 2) Standardized quality • 3)Nation advertising programs. • 4) Centralized buying power

  7. .. The biggest disadvantage of a franchise is that the franchise owner must sacrifice some freedom in return for the parent company's guidance

  8. Other disadvantages include: 1) High franchising fees and royalties franchisers often change high fees for the right to use the company name. they also charge franchise owners a share of the earnings

  9. 2) strict operating standards franchise owners must follow all of the rules laid out in the franchising agreement for such matters as hours of operating employee dress codes and operation procedures . Otherwise an owner may lose the franchise.

  10. 3) purchasing restrictions franchise owners must often buy their supplies from approved suppliers. • 4) limited product line franchise agreements allow stores to offer only approved products

  11. .. Cooperative-a business organization owned and operated by a group of individuals for their mutual benefit.

  12. Cooperatives or co-ops fall into three main categories: consumer, or purchasing cooperatives service cooperatives; and producer cooperatives.

  13. Consumer Cooperative • Retail outlets that are owned and operated by consumers are called Consumer Cooperatives . Consumer cooperatives sell merchandise to their members at reduced prices. By making large purchases consumers cooperative can obtain a good low price.

  15. Service Cooperatives • Cooperatives that provide a service rather than goods are called Service Cooperative. Banking Service, Health Care, Legal help or Baby Sitting service. Credit unions or financial cooperatives lend money to their members at reduced rates. Cooperatives provides a service rather than a good.

  16. Producers Cooperative Producers Cooperatives are agricultural marketing cooperatives that help members sell their products. These co- ops allow members to focus their attention on growing their crops or raising their live stock. the co –ops mean while market these goods for the highest price possible.

Nonprofit Organizations • Institutions that function much like business organizations but do not operate for profits are known as nonprofit organizations. • These nonprofit organization are usually in the business of benefiting society. Non profiting organizations includes museums public schools the American Red Cross the Salvation Army hospitals adoption agencies churches synagogues YMCA and many other services providing groups.

  18. Professional Organizations Professional organizations work to improve the image working conditions and skill levels of people in particular occupations. Examples include the national education association for the public school and college and university workers American Veterinary medical association for veterinary professionals, the American management association for the business professional.

  19. Business Associations • Business associations promote the collective business interest of a city or state of a similar business. They may also address codes of conduct just professional associations do. Your local better business Bureau sponsored by local business is non profit group.

  20. Trade Associations • Non profit organizations that promote the interest of particular industries are called trade associations. The American marketing associations for example aims to improve marketing's firms images.

  21. Labor Unions • A labor union is an organized group of workers whose aims is to improve working conditions hours wages and fringe benefits. In the next chapters you will read about the history and role of labor unions.
