  4. The Immune System • The immune system is the body’s primary defense against: Disease causing pathogens

  5. Pathogens • Antigens – protein on the surface of the pathogen that triggers the immune system

  6. Immune System White blood cells produce antibodies – identify and neutralize antigens

  7. Antibodies • Antibodies attach to the antigen when the shape fits • Why does it attach there? It marks the bacteria so the white blood cells knows to eat it up or engulf it
