  2. Project requirements • Coaster must be a circle or square. • Must be 4 inches in diameter (wide). • Roll out a thick slab(1/2 to 1 inch). • Trace a circle or square from a template. • Coaster must have ridge that is raised slightly above the slab to hold the cup in.

  3. Master copy of a painting Look for images in art history books in the classroom. Find and print out an image of a famous painting that you would like to copy. Print out image full size in color at home or in the library. Trace the circle or square template over the printed image. Carve the detailed section into the coaster slab. Some areas should be carved and some should be raised.
