USSR (Soviet Union) • Stalin (1878-1953) • Ruler after Lenin (dies 1920s) • Ruthless ruler, used position to gain power • Known for “eliminating” his enemies and “purges” • Still waiting for the “fall” capitalism • Remember Communism notes • Wants to encourage/speed up the “change” • Willing to make a deal with Hitler • Hitler promises not to invade USSR • Non Aggression Pact (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact)

  4. Japan & Militarist • Tojo 1884-1948 • Seek land resources = Empire • Need resources • Want to be independent from trade • Emperor Hirohito 1901-1989 • Figure head leader • Not seen/heard by Japanese people • Attacks Manchuria & Korea, and more
