  2. 1 Year plan Apply for jobs and get a job that’s within commuting distance from home that will provide a stable income for me to pay off my overdraft and begin saving money to enable myself to become financially independent. Visit ceramic and craft fairs and shows throughout the year and talk to the people there to gauge interest from each one and start making connections with more ceramic artists. Continue making ceramic work in my studio and start making it available to sell through my online store on my website, advertising and engaging with potential customers through instagram and other social media platforms Approach local shop owners to inquire about the possibility of having a selection of my work for sale in their shops, and talk about pricing of work.

  4. 5 year plan Have completely paid back my overdraft and saved up enough money to be financially independent, though still in a stable job if I’m not able to support myself fully from my ceramic practice. Be a regular stall holder at a number of different local (and more widespread) ceramic and craft fairs and shows. Have an established pottery brand with a range of products that are available to buy through my online store, with an option for custom orders available too for a higher price. Be looking for and researching different opportunities to make advancements with my ceramic career, whether through teaching evening classes, running workshops or affiliating myself with more established potteries in my local area. Be thinking about moving out and buying a house to be completely independent, and the difficulties and problems I may face with that. Look at the possibilities, benefits and drawbacks of opening up a physical store to the public, and the different complications that may come with that.

  10. Artist statement and catalogue photos Photos Artist Statement A family is made up of individuals: parents, children, siblings who come together to make a whole. Belonging to a group can bring a sense of cohesion and unity, but individuality cannot be ignored. I believe the same is true for the ceramics used within a home, particularly used in conjunction with a family, ceramics belongs to all but is used by individuals; like with children fighting to get use of their favourite mug, or a large jug filled with water being passed around a table for everyone to share. By using my skills in throwing and surface decoration, I create a sense of cohesion and individuality; a flower motif is laid across all pieces, uniting them, yet on each the design is unique mirroring that same sense of unity and individuality between the different members of a family.
