  2. Timeline • Isaiah saw five kings come and go – over 50 years

  3. mmm… • Isn’t it interesting that a godly father (Uzziah) produced a godly son (Jotham) who produced an evil son (Ahaz) from whom came one of Judah’s godliest kings (Hezekiah) who fathered the worst of Judah’s kings (Manasseh)! You just never know how your kids will turn out. • Douglas Connolley

  4. Isaiah the man… • Son of Amoz • Means “The Lord is salvation” • Royal status? An official historian for Uzziah and Hezekiah. • Married to a prophetess (8:3) • Lived in crisis times politically.

  5. Isaiah the book • Called the Bible in miniature, but only because of “human” chapter divisions! (66 chapters, 39 on failure and 27 on hope) • Most quoted and alluded to book in NT

  6. The message… • Present Judgement and future hope. • Present judgement: • (1-35) Moral/spiritual decay. • Into that comes “Immanuel” (7-12) • Judgement on Israel and the nations (11 nations in 13-23) • (36-39) History: loss of N Kingdom & threat of Babylon over Judah
