  1. AP Psychology Terms Notebook & Cornell Notes - Text

  2. AP Psych Cornell Notes - Text What are Cornell Notes? • Cornell Notes are a form of telegraphic or “texting”notes. It is a two column note taking system that helps you organize your video lecture and textbook notes so that you will never have to go back and use your textbook for studying ever again. • Cornell Notes will also help you participate in class discussions.

  3. What materials do I need for Cornell Notes? • You can purchase a notebook (from staples) that has the Cornell method already set up. I also have loose Cornell sheets that you can use if you prefer a binder or you can purchase college ruled lined paper to set up your own Cornell Notes. * see our Twitter account for pictures of each type of Cornell Note system @APSVPSYCH

  4. If you decide to set up your own Cornell Notes…

  5. What goes in each area of the Cornell Notes ? • Cue Column (cue means question or recall) • Include highlighted questions from the text • These questions are numbered • You will have separate term cards or terms notebook, therefore you don’t need to record terms here in detail • ALWAYS INCULDE A MINIMUM OF ONE ORIGINAL QUESTION ON SOMETHING THAT YOU NEED CLARIFIED • Note-Taking Area • Your self composed notes • Summary Area • Only a few sentences summing up important points after class discussion of notes/questions • Sometimes this will be done in class; sometimes it will be assigned for hw See last slide.

  6. Assessment Will my notes be graded? • Your Cornell notes will be collected every 4-5 weeks. • You will receive full credit only if your table of contents is up to date(we will do this in class the 1st time), your notes are in order, all questions for each unit are accompanied by notes, and all sections are summarized

  7. Terms… In what format should I take notes on important people and vocabulary from the field of psychology? • A large part of your success in the AP Psych test in May will come from your memorization of terms. • You will be required to keep either note cards (3x5) or a bound/composition notebook for all terms for each unit. Terms will be collected and given credit for completion on the date of each unit test. • ….continued on next slide…

  8. Terms… In what format should I take notes on important people and vocabulary from the field of psychology? • Terms Cards: If you select this option the cards must be… • 3x5 • Numbered and in order • Concept or name on one side and explanation on the other • Notebook: If you select this option the notebook must… • Be bound • Terms numbered in order • Line drawn down page vertically indented about 3 inches in from margin (we do this so we can cover the right side & review) • Separated by units.
