  4. APPLICATIONS OF COACHING • INDIVIDUAL COACHING FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • TEAM COACHING • FEEDBACK COACHING IN CONJUNCTION WITH A 360 SURVEY • INDIVIDUAL COACHING IN SUPPORT OF LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

  5. EXAMPLES OF COACHING APPLICATIONS • USDA NASS: Coaching the Administrator and select members of his Senior Executive Team • EPA OES: Coaching manager and her management team • INTEL COMMUNITY: Feedback coaching in conjunction with OPM Leadership 360 survey: Executives down to managers

EXAMPLES OF COACHING APPLICATIONS • CNCS: Feedback coaching with 360; HQ Executives and managers plus all State Office Directors • INTEL COMMUNITY: Individual coaching for each member of leadership development cohort • HHS OGC: Limited number of individual coaching sessions with 360 feedback and MBTI

TRENDS IN COACHING IN GOVERNMENT • Coaching is becoming a preferred tool in developing future executives • Focus shifting to development of leader coaches • Coaching is an integral part of SES Candidate Development programs • Coaching certification becoming more important and a requirement by some agencies

TRENDS IN COACHING IN GOVERNMENT • Coaching and OD consulting skills are becoming important competencies • Coaching and mediation skills are becoming more important for leaders • Coaching is an important complement to mentoring • Coaching is being used to help create organizational alignment and communities of learning

  9. TRENDS IN COACHING IN GOVERNMENT • More internal coaches appearing in agencies; e.g. IRS. OCC, and some Intel Community organizations • Coaching capability is being seen more and more as an important competence of future leaders • Some senior executives are getting trained as executive coaches as they transition to retirement and setup practice
