Forming the Imperfect Tense • If a verb is 1st or 2nd conjugation, add ‘bā’ in between the Present Stem and Personal Ending • Ex. 1stvocābat = he/she/it used to call, he/she/it was calling • Ex. 2ndhabēbātis = you all used to have, you all were having • If a verb is 3rd regular, 3rd –iō or 4th conjugation, add ‘ēbā’ in between the Present Stem and Personal Ending • Ex. 3rd reg. petēbam= I used to seek, I was seeking • Ex. 3rdiōcapiēbās = you used to take, you were taking • Ex. 4thaudiēbāmus = we used to hear, we were hearing
