  2. Etre = to be être is one of the most common verbs in French. It is irregular in conjugation and literally means “to be.”

  3. Formation of the verb etre in the present tense. The present tense is composed of two elements. 1 – Subject or subject pronoun 2 – the form of a verb Subject pronoun + the form of the verb Le canard blancest beau. Sujet form of the verb

  4. Subject pronouns The subject of a verb is the person or thing which performs the action of that verb. Subject pronoun – is a word that can replace the subject in a sentence. French: Jean est. Il est. English: Jean is. He is.

  5. Subject pronouns French English Je I Tu You (sing. Informal) Il He Elle She On It, we Nous we Vous you (plur. Formal) Ils They (masc. Plur.) Elles They (fem. Plur.)

  6. Negation Negation is formed by placing ne … pas around the conjugated verb, which, in this case, is être. Jean n’est pas petit! Jean is not small.
