  1. THOMAS GEORGE CLARIDGE 25/2962

  2. Thomas Claridge was born on 19th of November 1882. He lived with his family in Chapel Street in Papanui.

  3. He was one of 6 brothers.

  4. Before joining the army he had been working on Arthur Shirley’s farm at Studholm Junction.

  5. He joined the army in April 1915 but on 29th September, 1916 he received gunshot wounds to his face.

  6. In January he was sent back to New Zealand to his home in Chapel Street because he was unfit for war service.

  7. He spent some months in Hanmer trying to recover from rheumatism that he caught while he was in France. FRANCE

  8. After that he was returned to Christchurch Hospital but he died 17 June 1918.

  9. He is buried in the family grave in St Paul’s Churchyard in Papanui.

  10. We will remember him.
