  1. What is TOPS?

  2. TOPS (Time-out for Professionals on Saturdays) is a non-stock, non-profit group of young professional women from various fields devoting their time on Saturdays to serve through teaching the less-privileged children.

  3. Thrust

  4. TOPS is committed to provide opportunities for young professionals to enrich their character and attain a balanced lifestyle by undergoing holistic formation, giving catechetical and academic instructions to poor youth and by engaging in forums, cultural get-togethers, sports, and other leisure activities.

  5. “We took upon ourselves the mission of developing volunteers who are competent, pro-active, have a high sense initiative, leadership and professionalism and able to exercise good judgment in their role as volunteers.”

  6. History

  7. TOPS was originally founded in 1984 to give vent to the women’s desire to serve while being immersed in their professional careers. Our volunteers commit themselves to enhancing the innate good qualities and potentials of poor youth thus assuring them of a bright future.

  8. TOPS started out as Time Out for the Poor on Saturdays. It is an offshoot of Palanan Multi Purpose Cooperative. Its aim is to involve the young ( and not so young) professionals in projects for the poor like catechism, medical missions, visits and the like. • An initiative which started out as a Piso-Piso Savings Club aimed at helping the poor help themselves by providing means of livelihood and loans at low interest and easy payment.

  9. 1994. Coop Chairman – Judy Cam, felt the need for an “apostolic arm” for professionals who want to devote their time, efforts, resources and expertise in uplifting the plight of the poor. Orientation seminars were organized. House visitations were done to familiarize ourselves with the families we will deal with. 1995 TOPS joined the Coop in it’s first ever Christmas party. 1997 Started catechism classes in Quirinal St. Palanan, Makati City • Organized quarterly medical mission within Palanan

  10. 2000 Heeded Jubilee call of PJPII by doing monthly visits besides the 1st and 3rd Sat Catechism Visits to poor families, orphanages, disabled, home for the aged, correctional etc.

  11. The Volunteers

  12. What does it take to be a TOPS volunteer? • Passionate desire to teach young ones • Constancy in fulfilling the teaching load assigned • Patience and creativity • Entails commitment in attending classes and seminar workshops • Self-propelled TOPS provides participants the opportunity to learn skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to be a volunteer.

  13. Volunteer Enrichment Program

  14. Our Volunteer Enrichment Program is designed to: • a) equip the volunteers with sound doctrine and necessary human virtue for a volunteer to process. • b) hone the technical and social skills needed by the volunteer to engage in community development undertakings. • c) foster emotional intelligence and enrich the volunteer culturally and intellectually.

  15. 1. Seminar and Planning Session An overnight affair consisting of talks, workshops and bonding activities as the volunteers brainstorm to make the year ahead a fruitful one. An opportunity to get to know each other and share insights and together, grow in their commitment to serve. 2. Holistic Formation • Cultural Get-togethers: Talks, cooking demos etc. • Interpersonal – Bonding activities badminton etc., Beach, Pilgrimage • Faith – Doctrine classes/Virtues Classes, Recollection

  16. TOPS in Action

  17. One of TOPS’ core activities is the Catechism/Tutorial Classes, which are held twice a month for the less-fortunate kids of Brgy. Pio del Pillar, Makati City. TOPS gives these kids basic doctrine classes, academic tutorials, and at times, art lessons and story-telling sessions every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.

  18. A mini-program is held every December that serves as a Christmas party and a Recognition Program for our students.

  19. New Project • This 2007, TOPS will teach English classes to students of F Benitez Elementary School. A Christmas party was held last Dec as a kick-off for this new “baby” of TOPS.

  20. TOPS Provides Opportunities • To give yourself to the others • To meet new friends • To get to know your faith well • To hone your leadership qualities • To be really really HAPPY!
