South Sac Streams Group Burrowing Owl Mitigation Construction

This report outlines the burrowing owl mitigation efforts in the South Sacramento Streams area following impacts from levee improvements. Between 2001 and 2008, the project necessitated the construction of artificial burrows to offset habitat loss. The mitigation history includes installation of 28 artificial burrows for impacts between 2001-2006 and the creation of 82 additional burrows for 2007-2008. Key locations for this construction include the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, with multiple burrow installations completed between March 2008 and later dates.
