  1. Art: Children created islands with salt dough. They cut grass and trees and other living things and placed them on the island. They made telescopes, eye patches and pirate hats. They created spring paintings. Math: We focused on Module 4 of the Common Core Curriculum; Comparison of length, weight and capacity. Children described and compared measurable attributes of objects and were encouraged to use the following concepts and vocabulary when describing their findings: small, big, short, tall, long, heavy, light, full and empty. We continue to read graphs, count objects and state how many objects in a group. Many children are now able to identify numbers and state which group of objects has more and less. We used our bodies as a unit of measurement and measured the distance in the room from one area to another. They used measuring cups in the house area and measured pirate treasure. March Pre-K News 2014 Language Arts: We read the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do you see?by Bill Martin Jr. as well as read many more fiction and non fiction books about zoo and farm animals. The children continued to recite nursery rhymes and songs. They identified the colors of real and fictional animals and their parts. We ended our expedition, which was titled, “To Be Real or Not To Be Real, “ with a celebration of learning. Children created a book of emotions, entitled, “Pre-K Parade of Emotions,” using the same format as the book, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? “ We recently began reading books on transportation. Social Emotional: This month our design principle was, Competition and Collaboration. We played games as a group and individually. The children discovered the importance of working together and trying to better oneself. Children are also becoming better at problem solving with their classmates independently. A Special Thank You!! To all those families who joined us at our “Celebration of Learning.” The children were so proud of their hard work. Thank you for your support and giving us the opportunity to work with your children. Science: As our expedition, “To Be Real or Not To Be Real,” came to a close, we were fortunate to have the Seneca Park Zoo Mobile visit our classroom. We had the opportunity to observe and experience zoo and farm animals in the classroom. We conducted float and sink experiments. Ask your child, how many bears it takes to sink a boat? Parents please keep a watch for upcoming fieldtrips.
