  3. Nordic Cancer Union Collaboration for improved cancer control in Scandinavia since 1980. Objectives • To handle projects and activities within research, information/prevention and patient support.

  4. Nordic Cancer Unionobjectives - continued • Creating synergy by implementation at a Nordic level. • Being unique through the collaboration between the Nordic countries. • Results of the projects should be improved and of a higher standard than if implemented at a national level in the individual countries. • Exchange of experience and co-operation on national and political issues. • To strengthen the international co-operation.

Nordic Cancer Union • Activities. • Cancer Control • Statistics (Nordcan) • Research (epidemiology, causes of cancer) • Prevention/information (tobacco, physical activity etc.) • Patient support • Advocacy (Nordic council, EU) • Education (research, Nordic summerschool in cancer epidemiology) • Fundraising (learn from each other)

  6. Nordic Cancer Union • Ethnic minorities • Need for information on health care • Need for knowledge on symptoms and signs • Need for knowledge to improve general health and for prevention of cancer • Ethnic minorities – migrants to the Nordic countries are similar – the need is the same.

Nordic Cancer Union • Expectations from this conference • To learn how we best reach the ethnic groups • To learn how to communicate our messages in health promotion and prevention to the new population • To better understand the culture and need of our new citizens • Evaluate if joint information by the NCU is a possible way forward
