To start up an effective ALG, three main conditions apply • Teachers teach classes in grade 9 and 10 • They engage in planning, testing and reflection of teaching practice • There is a mutual commitment to participate in all ALG activities throughout the project duration.
It is necessary to use the first meetings to clarify roles and ground rules for collaboration (such as keeping to agreed times, switch off cell phones, don’t interrupt when other speaks etc..) • Plan for regular meetings between the one-day ALG training every term.
Planning • Teachers should carefully consider what they can manage to do • Accept and encourage simple activities and realistic plans as a start
Reflection is whenyou… …LOOK AT OWN PRACTICE …MAKE THINGS VISIBLE …THINK DEEPLY ABOUT …CONSIDER
Reflection • Reflect at the beginning of the ALG meeting. • The reflections help to recap previous learning, and uncover what has happened since the last meeting • The reflections are filed in the ALG portfolio and will be part of the monitoring of al ALGs.
What is a Portfolio? • The ALG will collect evidence of professional development in a Portfolio. • It includes documentation of a range of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes developed in the ALG.
