Regulation Programme - Background • 2000 King’s Fund (5 year funding) • Sept 03 Acupuncture & Herbal medicine working group reports published • March 04 DH consultation • Dec 04 DH funding secured for 3 years (2005-2008) • April 05 Invited applications • July 05 Conditional offers to group • Sept 05 Accept/Decline

  8. KEY COMPONENTS OF REGULATION • Single register of practitioners • Agreed minimum standards of training and practice • Published codes of conduct and practice • Published complaints and disciplinary procedures • Lay representation

Regulatory Body Acts in the interest of the public Promotes the process of regulation Holds a single register of practitioners who meet agreed standards of training and practice Sets minimum requirements for CPD Develops & recommends a core curriculum for the profession Operates FTP procedures Professional Body Acts in the interest of the profession Promotes & supports the practitioners & the profession A membership organisation of professional practitioners Ensures members meet CPD requirements. May provide/recommend suitable CPD courses to members Ensures courses cover the core curriculum May provide information on insurance to members Roles of the Regulatory body & the Professional body
