Mandatory reporting of IPEDS Reporting IPEDS is mandatory for all institutions with PPA with US Dept of ED for Title IV federal student financial aid Since 2002-03, FSA has been enforcing this with fines, warnings Penalties for noncompliance include Fine of up to $27,500 per violation Institution’s eligibility to participate in Title IV programs can be suspended National Center for Education Statistics

Followup • Unfortunately, it takes a lot of work to make these low numbers happen • We are doing a lot of followup, during and after collections • Accepting data 2 wks after close • This summer, we’ll send letter to CEO and KH of institutions that have had their one and only second chance National Center for Education Statistics

  16. Proposed changes for 2007-08 Initial Federal Register notice placed January 24, 2007 which began a 60-day comment period through March 26 On March 8, second notice in Fed Reg was posted that read… National Center for Education Statistics

  17. March 8 Notice • “The Department has received comments regarding some of the new questions included for the first time in this proposed IPEDS Information Collection Request (ICR). The Secretary has taken these comments into consideration and decided to revise the proposed collection by removing some of the new items proposed for this annual data collection.” National Center for Education Statistics

NEW proposed changes for 2007-08 • Another Federal Register notice will be posted beginning another 30-day comment period (soon) • Most changes would be optional for 2007-08 and mandatory for 2008-09 • No race/ethnicity changes for 2007-08 included in changes sent to OMB National Center for Education Statistics

Enrollment • Parts E & F, 12-month Unduplicated Count and Instructional Activity • Remove from the Enrollment component collected in winter and spring, and create new component (E12) to collect these data in the fall • No changes to data collected, only to collection in which they appear • If approved, will be mandatory in 2007-08 National Center for Education Statistics

  23. Enrollment • Part G, Retention Rates • Rather than collect only the rates for full-time and part-time students, collect the numerator and denominator and have the system calculate the rates National Center for Education Statistics

Graduation Rates • Sections V and VI, students receiving athletically related student aid • Eliminate these sections from IPEDS GRS • Institutions will no longer be required to report these data to IPEDS, but will still be required to disclose these data, per SRK • Add item to report URL used for disclosure National Center for Education Statistics
