Status of Agriculture in Kharif season • Kharif Crops : Cotton, Groundnut, Bajra, Paddy, Maize, • Jowar, Sesame, Castor and Tur (pigeon pea) • along with fodder and vegetables Kharif 2009 • At the end of June only 14% kharif areas were sown as against the normal of 30%. • Commencement of monsoon was very much delayed; up to 12th July, regions of North Gujarat and Central Gujarat had not received rain. • Rain fall was to an extent satisfactory in the second week of July, ( 12th to 20th July.) Over all rain fall has been 54% till 31st July, the Distribution varies from 32% to 182% among districts. Cont…
Status of Agriculture in Kharif season in Gujarat cont… • Areas from bajara, paddy, groundnut and sesame has been shifted to others , castor, cotton and fodder crops due to delayed monsoon. • Complete absence of rainfall for month ( 27th July,2009 to 25th August 2009) after satisfactory rain by July. • The standing crop under tremendous stress that could have led to the possibility of extremely low agriculture production. • But by the end of August, satisfactory rainfall was observed in all talukas of the state & situation has been softened. • Over all abuses only two spell of rainfall was observed in the state.

RKVY Prospect 2009-10 • SLSC meeting held on – 3rd August 2009 • Rs. 145.89 crore Carried over Liability of sanctioned Stream-I projects during 2007-08 & 2008-09. • Rs. 386.19 crores were earmarked for the state. • Total 67Stream-I projects of Rs. 458.43 crores were put up for consideration of SLSC. • Out these 62 projects of Rs. 277.68 crores were considered by SLSC. • The SLSC approved 29 projects of Rs. 20.68crores from DAPs of various districts of the state. • 33 projects of Rs. 257.00 crores submitted by HODs / SAus/ Allied deptts included in SAP. • Rs. 36.81 crores were released on 15th June 2009 of first installment under Stream-II • Total 12Stream-II projects of Rs. 36.81 crores were considered by the state on 20th August 2009. 31

Since approval of SEWP 2009 is still awaited from GOI, not much progress is made on these activities

MICRO IRRIGATION • State Govt. is promoting drip irrigation through GGRC (implementing agency) • POLICY : • 50 % amount as Subsidy • 45 % low interest long-term loan • 5 % farmer’s contribution • Massive extension campaign of the micro irrigation with technological aspect at rural level carried out through State Agriculture Department • in Krushi Mahotsav 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009.
