  1. This Week, 1-18-11 Mrs. Smith’s Class

  2. I hope that everyone had a great unexpected week off! I think that I have seen enough snow and I’m ready to get back to work. We did miss our field trip to the Tellus Museum last week, but as soon as I have any information about a possible reschedule I will let you know.

  3. Thanks go out to: Mrs. Thomas-Thank you for making copies for us. Arianna-Thank you for the great highlighter tape and magnetic clips which we put to use right away!

  5. Reading This week we will review the story “I Can Read! I Can Read!” and continue with our focus of understanding story grammar. Vocabulary test has been moved to Wednesday.

  6. Spelling Our spelling focus this week will be on short U (CVC) and long U (CVV –ew and -ue). This week’s words are: ŭ CVC brush truck dump junk plump trunk ū CVV -ew chew drew few grew knew stew ū CVV -ue sue blue clue flue glue true oddball do truth sew crumb tusk husk slump shrewd strewn whew brew hue cruel fuel Challenge Words:

  7. We will be finishing our unit on solid shapes this week and begin working on place value to the thousands place. Don’t forget to continue practicing for the Math Megaminds challenge. We are preparing to take our subtraction facts test.

  8. / Social Studies We will continue our study of stars and the moon this week. We have already learned that our sun is the closest star to us, stars are not all the same size, they are made up of burning gasses, and patterns of stars are called constellations. In Social Studies we will continue learning about Martin Luther King, Jr.

  9. Reminders • Please sign and return the white report card slip and the brown envelope.  • Target for 2nd grade will now be on Thursdaysand no longer on Wednesdays. • Tellus Museum field trip information to come home as soon as we know anything! • We will be taking a field trip to the Cobb County Safety Village this week to learn about fire safety!
