  2. How did it start? • The Belgians colonized Rwanda and made the two ethnic groups, the richer and ‘whiter’ Tutsi and the poor Hutus. • Hutu Tutsi dancers

  3. Hutu and Tutsi • The Tutsi were the ethnic minority but held most of the power and were allowed an education. • The Hutu were the poor majority who had few rights and were largely uneducated.

  4. How They Abused Their Power The Tutsis began to become dictators of Rwanda and the Hutus began a genocide against the Tutsis

  5. Conflict • In April 6, 1994 the Hutu presidents, Juvénal Habyarimana, plane was shot down but the shooters were never found but it was blamed on the Tutsi.
