The Ming Dynasty: ________________________________________________________ The Great Wall of China: Built between 200 BCE and 1600 CE Estimated that 1 million workers died during its construction 3,890 miles of actual wall, 2,230 miles of natural barriers (rivers, mountains, etc) The wall is 25 feet tall and 12 feet wide

  12. The Ming Dynasty: ________________________________________________________ They’re not the only ones: There’s a proposal to build a wall along the US- Mexico border in order to prevent illegal immigration! Would a fence like this today work as well as the Great Wall of China did for them?

The Ming Dynasty: ________________________________________________________ The Forbidden City: • Ming rulers constructed a massive palace complex called the “Forbidden City” inside of the city of Beijing • Common people were not even allowed to enter the complex • The city was a symbol of the greatness of Chinese Culture

  20. The Ming Dynasty: ________________________________________________________ Isolationism: I wish I had someone to talk to… By the 1430s, a Ming emperor banned all foreign trade and enacted a period of isolationism (this means that China avoided interacting with all other nations)
