  1. SPECIALIZED CELLS

  2. AS SPECIAL AS YOU!! • Over 200 different types of cells make up the tissues in the human body. • None of these cells function well on their own. • They are part of the larger organism called • YOU!!!

  3. GROUPS OF CELLS MAKE UP TISSUES • There are 4 primary tissue types in the human body:

  4. Connective tissue that fills the spaces between organs and tissues in the body. • Nervous tissueused for communication in the body. • Epithelial tissue that lines the inner and outer surfaces of the body. • Muscle tissue that contracts to allow movement.

  5. Epithelial Cells form Epithelial Tissue • Epithelial Cells pack tightly together and form continuous sheets that line different parts of the body. • Examples: Inside the mouth (cheek cells) Line organs like the stomach Surround the outside of the organs Make the outer layer of your skin

  6. Cheek Cells

  7. MUSCLE TISSUE • Muscle cells make specialized tissue that can contract. • Muscle tissue contains the specialized proteins actin and myosin that slide past one another to allow movement. • Examples: Heart – Cardiac Muscle Body Movement—Skeletal Muscle Digestive Tract, Veins, Arteries, and Bladder—Smooth Muscle

  8. Muscle Cells

  9. NERVE TISSUE • Has the ability to generate and conduct electrical signals in the body. • These signals are managed by the brain and transmitted down the spinal cord to the body.

  10. CONNECTIVE TISSUE • There are many types of connective tissue. • It is the most diverse tissue type. • It adds support and structure to the body as well as organ protection and energy storage. • Connective tissue is strengthened by the protein collagen. • Examples: Inner layers of the skin Tendons, Ligaments, Cartliage Bone, Fat, Blood, Fills in spaces and supports internal organs

  11. Various Cells Make up Connective tissue

  12. Different Shapes, Different Jobs!!

  13. Cells!!! Cells do so much! You’ll be surprised!! Because they are so specialized!!!
