  13. Attracting Candidates • If you are looking to recruit it is worth remembering that people looking for new roles cite their top 3 drivers (after salary): • Flexible working hours • Pension • Good holiday entitlement (+25 days)

  14. Contract & Interim Rates • Paid £x / day basis • Higher risk, higher reward • What are you worth? Conversion Rule of Thumb: • Divide permanent salary by 100 • Then £40k = £400 / day

  15. Contracting versus Permanent • Contracting • Higher Risk, Less Security • No Benefits • No Career Development • Greater Flexibility • Higher Income • Broader Experience • Permanent • Lower Income • Less Flexibility • Lower Risk, More Security • Benefits • Career Development • Sense of Belonging

  16. Agencies….what to look out for…. • Is it a genuine live role? • Who is the hiring organisation. Has the agency placed there before? Are they on the Preferred Supplier List? What is the selection process? • Have they asked for references…why? • Contract roles…agency takes references. Perm role…hiring organisation takes references • Using your references just to find new clients? • Rate? • Have they told you not to discuss rates during interview? Why? Lack of transparency? What is the agency fee?

  17. What do these mean to you? • Can you build a decent logically linked plan? • Planning skills are poor • Application of practical risk management • Create a list….then cross my fingers?!

  18. Your career • Ensure you have ability to justify your title of Project Manager • Recognise the skills of a Project Manager….do you have those skills? • Gain appropriate qualifications…APM! • Engage with your industry…APM Chapter Events and SIGs • Look beyond the way of working in your organisation • PM skills are very transferable
