  1. Water into Wine

  2. John 2:1-11 • Jesus takes ordinary water and turns it into wine • God has a desire to take the ordinary and do extraordinary things • How can this happen? • Vs. 3-5 • Mary involves Jesus & intercedes for the needs of the wedding guests • A heart for others • Prayer is essential • Her belief & intercession moved Jesus to action

  3. “Do whatever He tells you” • Obedience is essential - even when it makes no sense • Vs. 6-7 • 6 stone water jars • God wants to use the ordinary “us” to do the extraordinary • But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-- and the things that are not-- to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29

  4. The water jars had to be filled with water • Water can represent the Word of God • …Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word… • Ephesians 5:25-26 • Vs. 8-9 • We need to trust • Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. • Proverbs 3:5-6

  5. Vs. 10 • The best is saved for last • Haggai 2:2-9 • What God is doing now doesn’t seem that impressive outwardly – He is using stone water jars • The glory of this latter will be greater than the former • Don’t despise the small things • Zechariah 4:6-10 • It is only by His power & might – water cannot turn to wine without Him • Everything starts small…

  6. Application: • God wants to use us to do extraordinary things • This requires… • A heart for others • Prayer & belief • Being filled with the Word • Obedience • Trust • Jesus • Don’t focus on the outward – don’t despise small beginnings • God has saved the best till last
