  3. What is it? • Taking someone else’s ideas as your own • Taking someone else’s words as your own • Taking someone else’s work as your own

  4. How do people do it? • Forget to cite • Copy words or quotes • Copy and paste

  5. How do people avoid it? • Citation! • Remember APA formatting • Whenever there is an idea you took from somewhere, a direct quote or statistic make sure you cite it • (Lastname, year) • Then make sure you include it in your bibliography!

  6. Consequences... • Could be asked to redo the assignment • Could be given a 0 on the assignment • Could be asked to see the vice-principal • Varied responses

  7. Just Becareful... • Welcher has taught for 15 years • Welcher has four graduate degrees... • Welcher does not go looking for plagiarism but knows where to find it...
