  1. Year 7: Miss Tilly’s expectations: • When you come in take your bags and coats off and put them away. Take your pencil cases out, and please write your name on the sticky label in front of you. Make sure the name is large enough so we can see the name. • Take your books out, if you do not have your book put your hand up. • Copy out the title, and learning objective and take out your name slip. Thank you.

  2. Roman Towns Objective: To use noticing skills to draw and label a Roman Town. To use Empathy skills to describe what it was like living in a Roman Town.

  3. RECAP Why did Caesar invade Britain? Draw three pictures of the reasons in your book! You have four minutes!

  4. Learning Outcomes • All – Will know the different parts of a Roman Town. • Most – Will have clearly labelled a Roman Town. Will have thought about life in a Roman Town. • Some – Will have completed a diary entry about life in a Roman Town.

  5. Activity: • What do we have in our towns? What do we have in Winterbourne or in other towns and cities such as Bristol. What buildings make up a town?

  7. 1. The forum: it was like a town square. It was the centre of the city where people met and did business 2. The Baths: these were used for washing and where people went and met their friends 3. Amphitheatre: This is where the Gladiators battled out and where there were wild animal fights

  11. 4. Basilica: Centre of the town with important buildings such as the Law Courts 5. Christian Church: A place to worship God 6. Temple: A place where Romans went to worship their Gods

  15. 7. Town House: Rich people lived in town houses and the poorer people lived in flats 8. North Gate: The town walls had gates to let people and animals through. Also Romans were not allowed to be buried inside the city walls

  18. Task: Empathy • Write a diary entry describing life in a Roman Town. Include: • - where you live in the town; • - which parts of the town you use or visit; • - do you like the towns the Romans built?

  19. Share in Pairs • With the person sitting next to you. Come up with one thing that you have learnt this lesson. Be prepared to explain what it is, and why it stands out.
