The Gift of Work: Understanding Its Goodness, Blessings, and Conduct

Work is an essential part of God's original creation plan, designed to keep us in rhythm with nature and community. Despite the challenges brought by the Fall, diligence in work brings blessings, provides for ourselves and families, and allows us to share with others. Conduct matters in our work relationships—employers should be fair while workers must be respectful and diligent. Above all, without God, work lacks meaning. Embrace the truth that work is good, a blessing for the world, and requires honorable conduct to truly fulfill its purpose.

Work is GOOD • It’s part of the original creation plan (Gen 2:15) • It kept us in the rhythm of the seasons (Prov 6:6-8) • The “Fall” made work hard(Gen 3:17-19) It inclined humans to: • Laziness – leads to poverty (Prov 6:9-11; 21:25; 22:13) • Greed – leads to stinginess/injustice (Prov 22:16; 28:22) • Diligence is blessed & brings wealth (Prov 10:15, 22; 12:11; 14:23)

  3. 2. Work BLESSES the World • We provide for ourselves (Prov 16:26; 2 Ths 3:10-12) • We provide for our families (Prov 27:23-27; 1 Tim 5:4,8) • We are able to share with others (Prov 28:27; Eph 4:28) • We earn respect & glorify God (1 Ths 4:11-12, Tit 2:9-10)

  4. 3. Work CONDUCT matters • Masters (Employers): • Treat workers fairly (Deut 24:14-15; Col 4:1) • Pay them properly & on time (Jer 22:13; Mal 3:5; Jas 5:4) • Do not be harsh (Eph 6:9) • Workers: • Be respectful & try to please (1Tim 6:1-2; Tit 2:9; 1 Pe 2:18) • Work hard, as for the Lord (Prov 18:9, 22:29; Col 3:22-24) • Be content with your pay (Lk 3:14)

  5. God is still the CENTRE • Without God, work is meaningless (Eccl 2:10-26) • Work is a gift from God (Eccl 3:9-13) Work is an intended part of God’s Creation: • Work is GOOD • Work BLESSES the World • Work CONDUCT matters
