  1. Bone Markings

  2. Bone MarkingsT = projectionsF = depressions (except facet)

  3. Condyle ( from knuckle) Rounded articular projections; mandible A rounded protuberance at the end of a long bone that gives attachment to tendons and articulates with the adjacent bone (fitting into the socket) thus forming a joint.

  4. Crest Narrow ridge of bone, usually prominent

  5. Epicondyle Raised area on or above a condyle

  6. Facet (as flat surface of a gemstone) Smooth, nearly flat articular surface; as of rib

  7. Fissure Narrow, slit-like opening (inferior orbital)

  8. Foramen Round or oval opening through a bone

  9. Fossa (ditch or trench) Shallow basin-like depression in a bone, often serving as an articular surface; temporal fossa

  10. Fossa

  11. Groove Furrow; mandible

  12. Head Bony expansion carried on a narrow neck; as of rib

  13. Line Narrow ridge of bone, less prominent than a crest

  14. Meatus (going, passage) Canal-like passageway (external auditory meatus)

  15. Notch Indentation at edge of structure

  16. Process Any bony projection or prominence

  17. Ramus Arm-like branch of bone that is a depression; mandible

  18. Sinus Bone cavity, filled w/air & lined w/mucous membrane

  19. Spine Sharp, slender, often pointed projection

  20. Trochanter Very large, blunt irregularly shaped process (femur only location)

  21. Tubercle Small rounded (wart-like) projection or process; adductor tubercle

  22. Tuberosity Large, rounded projection, may be roughened for muscle attachment (ex: behind last molar)
