NSS-DTU UNIT • Inaugurated on 13th January 2013 to establish a meaningful linkage between the campus and the community. • To orient the students towards community service while they are studying in the institution. • It is felt that their interaction with the common villagers and slum dwellers will expose the students to the harsh realities of poverty-stricken life and bring about a change in their social perception. • Students, teachers and the community are the three fundamental pillars of NSS-DTU. • NSS DTU has a volunteer base of around 125students belonging to various disciplines of engineering at DTU.

  3. Our CAMPUS Our DUTY • Started volunteer activities with our annual cultural fest- Engifest’13, - maintaining the decorum during events and guiding the visitors during the fest. • Also welcomed the Freshers to College on the Day of Orientation Lecture, Counselled anxious parents and took the freshers on a campus tour • Also volunteered in the events like Smart Technologies for Mechanical Engineering Conference and Voter Awareness Campaign, organized by the Election Commission of India.

  4. Clean India Campaign • Organised “Come, Clean India with Me” on 10th April 2013 in collaboration with IMAGINDIA institute. • It was an awareness campaign promoting cleanliness in the campus which was covered by Washington Post daily.

  5. Education and Health Camp • Health Check-up and Educational Campfor students in Govt. Boys Sr. Secondary School, Bawanaon 20th April 2013. • Created awareness about various career opportunities and role of education in their future. • Quiz competition was conducted for the students and cash prizes awarded to the winners. • The students were also taken for Body Mass Index check up under the supervision of professional doctors. They were provided with reports, and tips were given to them to maintain good health.

  6. Tree Plantation Drive • In collaboration with Global Warming Reduction Centre was conducted on 1st November 2013 • Team of volunteers was assisted by the college gardeners and the Horticulture Dept. of DTU. • 150saplingsplanted namely, Amla, Karipatta, Woodapple, Aloe Vera etc.

Shiksha: SabkaAdhikaar Cloth Donation • Week long drive during the month of October 2013 to celebrate the JOY OF GIVING WEEK • Students were urged to donate their old clothes for the needy. • These clothes were then donated to the NGO- Centre for Social Responsibility and Leadership (CSRL) for distribution to Uttarakhand flood victims • Primary school children from semi - rural locality near DTU campus were given tuitions by the NSS-DTU volunteers in the evenings. • They were also provided with refreshments.

E-Bins Women Self-Defence Workshop A two-day Workshop would be organized by NSS-DTU in collaboration with Child Association India for develoving self defence skills • To equip campus bins with an arrangement of Laser, LDRs, Controller and Buzzer which creates sound on dropping garbage in the bin • Approx ₹100 per Bin

For God’s Special Kids… • Under this program, a team of NSS volunteers would be visiting two orphanages on a weekly basis. • We would look after their studies and hygiene. • Recreational activities for the orphans would also be conducted. …And for His spokesperson on Earth • NSS-DTU would organize a short marathon in order to create awareness among people regarding the women’s rights.. • The participation would be open to all DTU students.

Village Adoption • This program is one of the main programs of NSS-DTU which would be carried out with the help of an NGO. • We would focus on the overall development of that village including, Primary and Secondary Education, Importance of Healthy and Hygienic Surroundings. • We as engineers would take this opportunity to build up efficient and cost effective solar powered bulbs and help in lighting up the lives in rural households.

  12. RURAL CAMP @ Shikarpur, Uttar Pradesh • NSS-DTU would be conducting a 10-day camp in Shikarpur, a village in Uttar Pradesh. • We would be coveringthe following social aspects: • Computer Literacy Campaign • Literacy Drive • Health and HygieneAwareness • Sanitation • Tree Plantation • Career Counseling for class 9th and 10thstudents

  13. Conducting Energy Audit Of DTU Campus • The objective is to save energy, reduce waste as each MW of additional capacity installation costs ₹ 6 cr. • We will cover the entire 163.9 acres of DTU campus, taking into account all energy consumption. Both electrical and other fuels involved will be covered, including the LPG consumption in the hostel messes. • Our role as an engineer is to determine proper illumination and load distribution on campus ,reduce waste if any through this drive along with suggestions to improve our energy efficiency on campus. • This model can later be adopted in a Save energy drive in the adjoining housing societies and RWAs.
