  2. Closure • The tendency to perceive a complete or whole figure even when there are gaps in what your senses tell you.

  3. Figure Ground Perception • The perception of figures against a background. • We experience every day. • What we see as a figure and what we see as a background influence our perception

  6. Proximity • The closer things are to each other, we have a tendency to think they are in groups. • Is this 3 colunms or 6 lines?

  7. Similarity • People think of similar objects as belonging together.

  8. Continuity • People usually prefer to see smooth and continuous patterns like lines and waves not disrupted ones.

  9. Perceptual constancies • Size Constancy-thetendency to perceive an object as being one size no matter how far away the object is. • People learn through experience

  10. Color Constancy • Tendency to perceive an object as keeping their color even though different light might change the appearance of the color.

  11. Shape Constancy • The knowledge that an item has one shape no matter what angle you view it from.
