  2. City Driving • Why is city driving more difficult? • There are more hazards more often • How many seconds should you keep as a space cushion when following a vehicle in front of you, under normal conditions? • 3 - Increase this distance under adverse conditions

  3. Why should you look through, over, and around a vehicle in front of you? • To anticipate potential situations • What is "tail-gating" (not the sports kind) • A driver following to closely behind you

  4. If someone is tail-gating, what should you do? • Increase your following distance so that if you must stop you can do so slowly/move slightly to the right so the following car can see better/signal early/in extreme situations, change lanes

  5. What is a stale green light? • A traffic light that is about to change yellow (usually expect it to change soon if it's green when you first see it) • What is "covering the brake"? • Holding your foot over the brake in preparation to stop

  6. What is "riding the brake"? • Resting your foot on the break (makes driver following you think younger about to stop - also wears your brakes down faster • What is the "basic speed law"? • You may not drive faster than is safe for the conditions

  7. What lane do you turn from when turning right onto a one-way street? • Right lane • What lane do you turn from when turning left onto a one-way street? • Left lane

  8. Which lane should you use when turning left from a one-way road? • Farthest left-remember to turn into the first available left lane • What should you do if you encounter a vehicle headed the wrong way on a one-way street? • Slow/steer right/honk

  9. When is it illegal to pass on a two-lane two-way street? • At intersections & over double yellow lines
