What led up to the RevolutionQuecauso la Revolucion? • Caused by the 3o year dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz/Causadopor la dictadura de Porfirio Diaz de 30 anos. • Power and wealth was in the hands of a few/El poder y la riquesaeran de pocos • Injustice was everywhere/Injusticiaestaba en todaspartes.

  3. Francisco Madero • Francisco Madero, a young leader who believed in democracy traveled Mexico and spread his beliefs against Diaz's dictatorship. Right before the elections of 1910, Madero was arrested in San Luis, Potosi. He escaped to the United States where he prepared to write a manifesto saying that the elections of 1910 were a fraud and did not recognize Diaz as Mexico's President. He then named himself as temporary president and made a promise to return all stolen land to the farmers. On November 20, 1920 he made a call for to uprise and that is the beginning of the revolution.

  5. Pascual Orozco & Pancho Villa • joined because they were unhappy with the abusive ranch owners and landlords and fought in the north.

  6. Emiliano Zapata • led the farmers to claim for equal land and water and fought in the south. He was killed in 1919 by Carranza's troops.

  7. Alvaro Obregon • worked with Carranza and supported his presidency

  8. VictorianoHuerta • general who was left in charge by Diaz after he escaped to France.

  9. Venustiano Carranza • declared himself president in 1914 after killing Zapata. He was hated by all and tried to escape but was killed.

As a result of it… 900,000 people fled to the United States during the 10 year period 2-3.5 million deaths during 1910-1920 For the first time in Mexican history, poor people who once worked as servants and farmhands at rich haciendas now had equal land rights and were given land of their own.
