  1. AEM & PAGODA:Aviation GHG Calculation Resources in EUROCONTROL EEA Workshop, 5 October 2007, Oslo Ted Elliff, Stefano Mancini EUROCONTROL

  2. Content • AEM – fuel burn and GHG emissions estimation methodology • TESA • Databases • AEM • PAGODA – monitoring and reporting on aviation environmental indicators • What data is available • Flight based data completion and validation • Reporting EEA Workshop, Oslo - AEM & PAGODA

  3. TESATOOLSET for ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY ASSESSMENT Driven by databases of 4D flight profiles and closely coupled to international databases and standards. Compare current and future projections. Data bases TESA A decision aid for balancing projections and standards. 9. BADA • Above 3000 ft, the fuel burn calculation is based on the “Base of Aircraft Data“ (BADA). • Its current version (BADA 3.6) provides altitude & attitude dependent performance and fuel burn data for 295 different aircraft types. • For 91 directly supported aircraft types this data has been developed using reference sources such as Flight Manuals, Operating Manuals etc. • For the other 204 types, the data is specified to be the same as one of the 91 directly supported aircraft. • When taking into account both the directly and indirectly supported aircraft, BADA then provides a 99.14% coverage of European air traffic. EEA Workshop, Oslo - AEM & PAGODA

  15. Fuel Burn and GHG Emissions Estimation Methodologies in PAGODA • ANCAT (recommended by ECAC) • “ECAC Member States should calculate the emissions of aviation as accurately as possible using ANCAT method number three as described in the Guidance Material” (ECAC 27/3, 8-9 July 2003) • Advanced Emission Model (AEM) EEA Workshop, Oslo - AEM & PAGODA

  18. Data/Information Reporting • User specific (login, customisation) • Easy to use (intuitive) and to access (web) • Up to date (real time access of data warehouse) • Minimum cost (no end user license) • Allow Economy of scales (standard reports) • Ensure data downstream processing (data interoperability, industry standards) • Statistical Portal • Forecast • Delay analysis • Environmental indicators EEA Workshop, Oslo - AEM & PAGODA
