Antebellum Georgia

In the early 1830s, tensions escalated between American settlers and the Mexican government over Texas. Despite attempts by U.S. Presidents John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson to purchase Texas, Mexico refused. By 1834, Americans significantly outnumbered Mexicans in Texas, causing concern for Mexican President Santa Anna. He enacted laws to deter further American settlement, leading to the Texians' declaration of independence. The ensuing conflict saw battles like the Alamo and Goliad, culminating in Texian victory at San Jacinto and the establishment of the Republic of Texas in 1836.
