  4. AdditionalInformation • Burns much slower than gasoline • Close to 400,000 tons were used in Vietnam • Napalm is a mixture of aluminum salt an other chemical acids • Napalm may also be mixed with other petroleum products other than gasoline

  5. Napalm burns at close to 1800˚ F

  6. Production • Dow Chemical Company was a big producer • Produced from 1965-1969 • America Electric won the next contract • Last batch of Napalm was finally recycled in 2001

  8. Agent Orange • Chemical Defoliant • Used between 1962-1971 in Vietnam • Used to destroy crops used to feed Viet Cong • Used to destroy cover used in battle • About 13-20 million gallons were of chemical defoliants used in Vietnam • 11 million gallons of Agent Orange

  9. Application • Airplanes were the best way to apply Agent Orange. • One plane could kill up to 350 acres of forest or jungle in just under four minutes

  10. TypesofDefoliants • Many different types of defoliants were used on Vietnam: • Agent Orange • Agent Green • Agent Blue • Agent Pink • Agent White • Agent Purple • They were all named for the colored banded painted around the drum.

  11. HealthProblems • Agent Orange is linked to many health defects including: • Birth Defects • Skin Diseases • Miscarriages • Cancer • Learning disorders • The United States paid $180,000,000 to over 250,000 complaints in Vietnam and then special benefits to Veterans.

  12. Compensation • American Troops will receive up to $250,000 the exact amount varies per case • Vietnamese Citizens affected by Agent Orange will receive just under $5 a month

  13. EnvironmentProblems • Once called an “ecocide” • Killed farmers crops and source of income • Destroyed jungles • Killed off animals • Destroyed cover for Animals
