Hezekiah • Judah –only thing left of the Kingdom of David • King Hezekiah • Judah –rebirth • Isaiah was his guide • Serious reformer • Tore down pagan temples
King Hezekiah • 2nd best king • Renovates the Temple • Reinstitutes daily sacrifices to God • Celebrates Passover • These things are good, but cosmetic • People didn’t trust and truly change • Assyria threatens to take over Jerusalem • Hez repents making human alliances in past • God defends them-185,000 Assyrian men found dead in the morning
Book of Isaiah • Three or more Prophets • Ch. 1-39 –Isaiah • Rest of book –compilation of Isaiah’s prophecies • Main theme- repentance /judgment • Faithful remnant will return to establish a new kingdom • A-Remnant-Shall-Return
Isaiah • Isaiah • Sent to call Judah to repentance • Sent to warn of destruction if Judah did not repent • Looked forward to Israel being spiritual capital of the world
Isaiah • Isaiah talks to King Ahaz • Rely on God, not allies • Ahaz “officially” believes in God • Doesn’t • He can’t tell Isaiah to leave, but he has no faith in him • God offers a sign-something that can immediately be proven true

King Manasseh • Sacrifices his son to Moloch • Murdered all those who stand in his way • Sawed Isaiah in half • No more prophets are sent to him • Captured by Assyrians • Converts (restores temples to True God) • Longest reigning King –Judah and Israel
King Josiah • Son of Amon (son of Manasseh)who was assassinated • Great reformer • Priests found the Book of the Law –Deuteronomy • Heard curses on Israel for disobeying the Law • Prophetess Huldah confirmed bad news
King Josiah • Gathered all the people • Read the Book of Law to them • Swore to keep all Commandments of God • Tore down false altars • Even after being punished • Did what was right –even if no immediate benefit received
Jeremiah • Josiah’s sons –worthless • All carried away by powerful kings • One left as vassal to Nebuchadnezzar • Despite bad –no repentance • Prophets beaten • Brought bad news • Jeremiah –beaten –thrown down well
Jeremiah • King Zedekiah consulted Jeremiah • Why? • Stubborn –knew he had the Truth • Jeremiah • Powerful despite unpopularity • Foretold destruction –no words for it • Used Genesis –world would be undone
