Mission (Aims, Objectives, Stakeholders) • Religous Grammar School (Predominantly Christian) • Run by Parish • Open to All Children in Parish / Quasi-Public • Promote Duality of Religion and Education • Maintain Religious Ideals and Morals • Develop Student from Moral, Educational, and Religious Aspect • Main Stakeholders are Parents who want their children to undertake religious indoctrination through education. Ex. Chris Christie

  3. Mission (Values, Purpose of Reform) • Place more Emphasis on Morality of Student • Uphold Religious Values • Devotion to Scripture and Ideals of Religion • Concepts Not Discussed: Homosexuality, Evolutoin, Ideas going against Religion • Guide Children to Religion

  4. Connections to Course Content Founders and Theorists of Education • What is the Purpose of Education? (Mentor? Guide? Educate?) • Funding (Mostly Done through Donations)

  5. Theorist Impact • Pestalozzi- Develop human being’s moral, mental, and physical powers harmoniously. • Herbart- Develop many-sided interests and moral character • Montessori- Assimilate immigrants into American society while preserving their ethnic cultural heritages

  6. Influence on Learning • Pros • More curriculum focused on development of moral character • More subject variety throughout the day can keep students engaged and interested • Students are taught religious content every day • Students are able to pray every day during school

Influence on Learning • Cons • Less time is spent on normal curriculum • It may be difficult for some students to study normal subjects and religious subjects simultaneously • A lot of time is spent on praying and religious education, which may be less beneficial for students who are not very religious

  11. Class Discussion • Should subjects such as evolution be completely banned from curriculum? • Should Parochial schools receive public funding?
