  1. DINO General Meeting Deployment and Intelligent Nanosatellite Operations (DINO) University of Colorado at Boulder January 21, 2004 Boulder, Colorado

  2. DINO’s Mission Statement The purpose of the student-led Deployment and Intelligent Nanosatellite Operations (DINO) mission is to determine cloud heights from space, evaluate the performance of intelligent operations, and assess deployment technologies for nanosatellites including a gravity-gradient boom, memory composite hinges, and thin-film solar arrays. Colorado Space Grant Consortium

  3. DINO’s Mission Objectives • Deployment Objectives • Demonstrate MicroSat’s Foldable Integrated Thin-Film Stiffened (FITS) solar arrays • Demonstrate Composite Technology Development’s Elastic Memory Composite (EMC) hinges • Evaluate the deployment of a gravity-gradient boom • Operations Objectives • Demonstrate MicroSat’s thin-film solar cells • Demonstrate Ball’s power system • Demonstrate wireless communication between the primary satellite and the tip mass • Intelligent Operations Objectives • Demonstrate autonomous scheduling, planning, execution, and rescheduling • Onboard evaluation of science and engineering data • Science Objectives • Measure cloud heights • Education Objectives • Educate students to design, build, and operate small satellites • Educate K-12 students about science and engineering using DINO Colorado Space Grant Consortium

  4. DINO’s Configuration • 25-kg primary satellite • 5-kg tip mass • 6-m static boom • One FITS deployable solar array out back • Two aerofins on the sides • Two science cameras • Etc… Colorado Space Grant Consortium

  6. Meetings for the Semester • Team Meetings will be held once a week • All team members are required to go to their team’s meeting • Systems Meetings will be held once a week • Team leads are required to attend and everyone else is welcome • General Meetings • These will occur when needed • Special topics will be covered at these meetings like Configuration Management • One representative from each team is required to attend and then report at their team meeting • Meeting Minutes and the presentation that was given will be available on the website http://spacegrant.colorado.edu/dino Colorado Space Grant Consortium

  7. Beginning of Semester Tasks • Determine how many more people are needed on your team. • Schedule a time to meet with Jen to go over your team’s detailed schedule. • Determine when your team’s weekly meetings are. • Get Jen your schedule of the semester if you haven’t already. • Input your schedule into http://calendar.colorado.edu Colorado Space Grant Consortium

  8. Semester Timeline • February 9-13: Subsystem Progress Check • March 8-12: Critical Design Review • April 19-23: End of Semester Peer Review • May – June: Subsystem Delivery • July: Integration Starts Colorado Space Grant Consortium

  9. New Students • A new student orientation will be held based on the schedules given to me • Talk to your team lead and get started • If you don’t have a team lead, talk to Jen • Explore the DINO website • http://spacegrant.colorado.edu/dino • For questions contact Jen Michels at michels@colorado.edu Colorado Space Grant Consortium
