Overview (What) Mission The Center for Leadership and Service educates students through meaningful experiences designed to prepare socially responsible individuals to create positive sustainable change. Year One – Focus on Individual • Self-Awareness • Take at least one of the following: True Colors, StrengthsQuest, MBTI, LPI, EQi and then attend a follow-up/debrief session • Attend the Involve*Lead*Succeed Conference, Women’s Leadership Conference, or Black Student Leadership Conference • Attend Gator Plunge • Attend LeaderShape • Attend a general presentation on the UF leadership model • Attend a Counseling and Wellness Center workshop • Schedule a consultation with a CRC Ambassador • Commitment • Schedule a consultation with IDEAL or with a CLS staff member • After your consultation chose an organization/club/group/committee/team to join • Get a job on campus • Attend the Volunteer Organization Fair, Student Organization Fair, or GatorMania • Serve as an executive board member in an organization or an ambassador for an office • Integrity • Attend a workshop on ethics or ethical leadership (Student Ambassadors of Civility and Ethics or CLS Ambassadors) • Attend a program during Ethics & Civility Week • Check out a book on ethical leadership from the CLS library • Take class on ethics • Serve on Student Conduct Committee (SCCR) • Interview a staff member from SCCR, Conduct Committee, or a professor that teaches ethics (we’ll provide sample questions)

21. be successful: a leadership skills and applications series • The ATLAS be successful leadership skills and applications series is designed to give participants an opportunity to learn practical leadership skills to apply in their everyday lives. Listed after each workshop description are the primary Student Leadership Competencies developed. • In order to complete the certificate, participants must complete 6 of the 7 workshops, the Hands On activity and a reflective meeting with an ATLAS mentor. • The workshops in the series are: • Managing Your Time Effectively Classes, work, involvement, leadership, and some fun on the side--how do you fit it all in? Come learn how to effectively strategize your schedule and find ways to work smarter, not harder. (Time Management) • Setting Effective Goals "A goal without a plan is just a wish" --Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This workshop will focus not only on the importance of goals, but effective ways to set them so you have a plan for success. (Goals and Plan) • Professional Communications r u emailing ur profs w/ txt language? Maybe there's a better plan. This workshop will help you ensure that those you are communicating with get the best impression possible. (Oral Communication and Nonverbal Communication) • The Art of Facilitation So now you're the club president…now what? Facilitating meetings and other group activities can be a lot of fun, but also very challenging. This workshop will focus on skills that can make your facilitation go much more smoothly. (Facilitation) • Public Speaking Strategies Leaders often need to speak in public, which can be very difficult for many people. But, learning to use effective public speaking tools can help you connect with your audience and motivate them. This workshop will offer practical tools to use when standing at the podium. (Confidence, Oral Communication, Nonverbal Communication, Feedback, Providing Feedback) • Critical Thinking Leaders need to be able to think critically...but what does that mean? This workshop will look at the concept--and practice--of critical thinking. (Analysis) • Problem Solving Many leaders are faced with the need to solve problems. Building on the concepts from the critical thinking workshops, this session will focus on effective methods for problem solving. (Analysis, Evaluation, and Problem Solving) • Hands on! After completing this series, you will work with ATLAS staff to find an opportunity to facilitate (or co-facilitate) a workshop.
