FasTrack – 6 Years of Success • Candidates are: • Average age 35 • Mid-career professionals entering a field that they often see as a vocation • Place bound without University access • Retirees looking to create a legacy • Young liberal arts grads who want to make a difference • Military veterans or spouses of active duty military • Ph.D.s, lawyers, surgeons, artists, chemists, small business owners, researchers____________________________________________ • Upon completion of the program, 98% of FasTrack candidates have passed the Praxis tests on the first try • FasTrack currently has over 100 active students

Pathway to Licensure- DetailsFasTrack PostBac Modifications A • Teacher candidate enrolls first semester in planning and introductory course ED3000 • All official transcripts are initially reviewed by instructors of the ED3000 course • Competency grids and standards are used in review • After initial review, the transcripts are sent to content coordinators

FasTrack PostBac Modifications B • Content Coordinators approve or note additional courses needed for the teacher candidate • Using the transcript review results, the ED3000 instructor and content mentor help the candidate with the planning of his/her Program of Study, including the content methods competencies • Content methods textbook is purchased this first semester and is used across the program

FasTrack PostBac Modifications C • Licensure candidate completes program as laid out in the Program of Study including a Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) MidPoint Assessment, Dispositions review, and MTLE testing • Licensure candidate’s performance on Standards of Effective Practice are tracked in TaskStream, our department’s data aggregation tool, final results must meet Professional Education department criteria. • Candidate completes supervised student teaching experience which includes completion of the required TPA by candidate • Clinical director(s) and Registrar verify completion of requirements, including successful passing of all required testing • Teacher candidate is recommended for licensure by BSU

  11. MentorsSecret to Success in the FasTrack Design Each candidate finds a mentor teacher in their community prior to starting the program. Mentor must have 3 years of public school teaching. Mentors are approved by their principal for involvement in the program. Mentors are licensed in the field in which the student is seeking licensure. BSU verifies that the mentor has a standard license in the content area. BSU Clinical Director provides support to mentors.

  13. Pedagogy CourseMethods Component • Content methods which have already been met with mentor teacher will be submitted for review in Pedagogy • Content Methods textbook required-1st semester will be used • Unit of study is developedfor content area with input from mentor teacher

Student Teaching and ClinicalField Experiences • Fifteen weeks of student teaching in the Content Area • Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) completed during student teaching • Mentor Teacher and ED3000 professor will help candidate plan field experiences across the desired license in the first semester on their Program of Study OPTION: Connections • Ten weeks of Face-to-Face Student Teaching with five additional weeks student teaching with a practicing online teacher or at a different grade level.

  15. Ninety School District Partners for Field Placements in Student Teaching Students request three possible sites based on their location and access. These districts are vetted by the clinical coordinators. The principals are approached and they recommend the most appropriate cooperating teacher for that candidate.

FasTrack PostBac Change Summary • The new ED3000 course, in collaboration with the content coordinators, will be required to review transcripts for content competencies. • Transcript review recommendations will be used to create a Program of Study for each student.   17. FasTrack PostBac Change Summary 2. The Program of Study will provide the candidate with a an individualized program. The program will reflect necessary content courses, if needed. Content Methods competencies will be reviewed, applied, and reflected upon with the mentor using a content standards worksheet. Candidate will demonstrate competencies in clinical field experiences supervised by the mentor and through BSU course work.

  18. FasTrack PostBac Change Summary 3. BemidjiState University will recommend for licensure when all the Standards of Effective Practice and Content Competencies are met, as documented in TaskStream and on the student’s transcript, student teaching and TPA have been successfully completed, and all required tests have been passed.

FasTrack PostBac Accountability Prior to Start: Take Basic Skills Tests and secure mentor 1st Semester: Program of study created by BSU, content program reviewed by mentor during Field Experiences 2nd Semester: Methods and Standards of Effective Practice progress checked in Pedagogy course, Mini-TPA during Field Experiences, must have passed Basic Skills, Dispositions review by two faculty and mentor 3rd Semester: Review of SEP completion in TaskStream, review of transcript for completion of content coursework, review of methods completion in Professional Teacher 4th Semester: Final check with completed standards entered into TaskStream after a successful completion of student teaching is achieved and all licensure tests are passed
