  2. “A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled stress exceptionally well.” The above quote tells you clearly that to be a diamond and shine you need to be able to handle stress well. The Oxford dictionary defines stress as ‘a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. There is simply no doubt in the idea that preparation of UPSC puts a lot of pressure on the candidates. The syllabus is so vast and the entire process is so tiring that it is very important to manage stress. Then only one can be at his best.

  3. Follow these simple techniques: • Be Physically Active. Preparing for UPSC exams can be a cumbersome task with strict timelines and study schedule extending into hours • Balanced Diet • Avoid Stimulants • Take out Time for Entertainment • Develop / Keep a Hobby • Rest & Sleep well

  4. Be Positive and Confident. • Think of the less fortunate. You'll feel blessed. • Take at least one day full off per month - no studies at all. • Exercise or walk (40 min) daily without mobile phone. • Take frequent small breaks. Re-energize. • Eat right

  5. Eat healthy food like fruits, veggies and nuts. You should avoid junk food. Junk food is known to be a cause of depression too. You should make conscious efforts to eat healthy food whenever you feel hungry. • Forget about your competitors: You should never compare yourself to other UPSC candidates. Everyone is different and so are their style and pace of study. You should just stick to your study plan and focus. • Make a personal success mantra - short and sweet - repeat it regularly. Stress during the UPSC preparation process is mainly due to information overload. Limit your resources, don't just read everything. . For e.g., many people read current affairs compilation from various magazines, which only overloads them with unnecessary facts without any value addition.

  6. Therefore its is essential to prioritize resources, subjects, topics and subtopics. Regular revision would further help in retaining whatever you have covered. This would also mitigate any stress building. • The final word is one should have sound body and mind to get through the examination. Staying calm and composed, cheerful and jolly will undoubtedly help you sail through all the difficulties and come up with flying colors in the exam. • Remember one thing very important that this is my decision so I have to stay with it . So why feel stress for my own decision . Once this thing settle in your mind half the battle is won .
