  2. 1941 Pearl Harbor • With the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US entered the war. • We agreed with the other Allies to go after Hitler in Europe first and play defense with Japan in the Pacific.

  3. Early 1942 • The US had a major naval base in the Philippines. • General Douglas MacArthur was supreme commander of US forces in the Pacific.

  4. First 6 months • Remember, we are playing defense with the Japanese……
