  1. Read to Feed is a great way to • help poor families in Africa… • because it involves children like you • raising money for Send a Cow by • reading and learning all sorts of • things about the world that we live in.

  2. Send a Cow is a charity that helps people in Africa by giving animals like cows, goats and chickens. They also provide training to show families how to grow more food on their plots of land.

  3. By taking part in Read to Feed, you will make it possible for these poor families to have better food and make money by selling milk and vegetables.

  4. So, how does Read to Feed work? Your teacher will let you know which books they would like you to read.

  5. You will then be given a bookmark to write the book titles on. And a sponsor form to get sponsorship from your family and friends.

  6. As you read each book, an adult will sign the space on your bookmark. Then you will show your teacher who will give you a sticker for it.

  7. When you have read the books, you will collect the sponsorship money in. Your teacher will send this money to Send a Cow and you will receive a certificate.

  8. This money will be used by Send a Cow to help poor families get out of poverty. See what your money can do…

  9. £10 could buy… four fruit tree saplings. Trees give fruit to sell at good prices, including apples, pears and plums. £40 could buy… a beehive. Bees give wax and honey to sell, and also help to pollinate crops - bringing benefit to whole communities! £55 could buy… a pair of local goats. Goats are easy for orphaned children to look after, providing milk, manure and lots of kids. £55 could pay for… work to create a self help orphan group. Seeds and training in natural farming help people to grow food on even the poorest soils. £250 could buy… a water storage pit. Where rainfall is scarce, water storage helps families to save every precious drop. £750 could buy… a dairy cow. Cows provide manure for fertiliser, lots of milk to drink and sell and calves to pass on.

  10. Everyone we help agrees to pass on that help to others, including cows, goats, fruit trees and skills. So the help you give will keep on growing and growing… Thank you for taking part!
