  4. Today you continue to explore the ancient pyramids of Egypt in small groups working cooperatively to discover the process of pyramid building. Once you have been assigned to your group it will be your job to travel to each of the 5 stations and complete the tasks assigned to each one. • Some basic guidelines for this activity: • You are to work only with the 4 or 5 students that you have been partnered with! • Each group needs to read through their piece of text in order to complete all tasks assigned to that station • You will have 5 minutes at each station to read the text, answer any questions, and complete the vocabulary activity. • Do not rotate until given the signal by the teacher. • Off task or inappropriate behavior will result in individuals being given an alternative assignment to complete. • These 5 stations should help us all gain a more vivid understanding of all of the things that went into the building of these massive tombs!

  5. Objective: We will be able to investigate the two main reasons why the Great Pyramid of Giza was built on the West banks of the Nile. Extra Credit 54 – Nero ascends to the Roman throne • Copy date: 10/13/2011 • Copy Objective • Warm-up: • What were the three main materials used to build the Great Pyramid of Khufu • Limestone, Granite, and Gold (top) • What is Adobe? • Sun dried brick made of clay and straw, in common use in countries having little rainfall.

  6. Now that we have taken the time to see all of the things that go into building the pyramid we are going to work to gain a better understanding of why the pyramids were built. Not only are we going to look at why they were built but more specifically why so much care was put into their design! Take a few minutes to read pages 2 – 13 in the Kids Discover Magazines. While reading pay specific attention to detail and time put into constructing the pyramids along with the strong belief of an afterlife that Egyptians shared. (most of these pages are pictures and captions… You are only reading the main text) Once you have finished reading go back and use the pages you read to complete the Kids Discover handout.
